Current issues in household buildings insurance under the Consumer Duty

In its file review work for clients, ICS identifies issues and challenges for brokers when arranging insurances.  Jane Davis, one of our consultants, writes about the current challenges when arranging household buildings insurance, based on what she sees in her file review work.

In particular, the issues include rising rebuilding costs, commonly held misconceptions, underinsurance (particularly in relation to the Consumer Duty requirement to act to prevent foreseeable harm, and at the same time reducing PI exposure for the broker), new modified ‘average’ clauses, and sums insured vs ‘blanket’ policies.
