When the FCA launched its market study in relation to premium finance in home and motor insurance, it was concerned that premium finance did not offer fair value to customers and that competition may not be functioning effectively. In its update paper, the FCA summarises and explains its initial findings.
Separately, on Friday 1st August, the Supreme Court passed judgment on three cases related to commission payments in motor finance. The Court has ruled that, in many cases, commission payments in motor finance arrangements could be legal, but that one lender did act unfairly – and therefore unlawfully – due in part to the size of the commission it paid to the motor dealer and how it was (or was not) disclosed.
